Let’s talk about ✨vibezzzzz! ✨
How much do you consider the vibe/feeling/emotions behind your business? Thinking this way is the biggest key to unlocking your ‘brand’, thinking about your business as being a bigger participant in the world than just your products/services.
When you think about your small business, what sort of vibe comes to mind? Is it warm and welcoming? Bold and cutting-edge? Playful and quirky? Your business’s vibe is more than just a feeling; it’s the essence of how your brand is perceived by others. Let’s dive into what we mean by your “vibe” and why nailing it is so essential for your small business.

What Do We Mean by “Your Business Vibe”?
Your business vibe is the overall impression your brand gives to the world. It’s a combination of visuals, tone of voice, and the experience you create for your audience. If it helps, I sometimes get my clients to picture their business as a brick-and-mortar shop - what can your customers see, feel, hear, touch, and smell as they enter your shop? Or think of your business as a person, what is their personality like?
Your vibe could easily be considered your brand’s personality, the thing that makes it memorable, relatable, and unique. Here’s how it comes to life:
🌟 Visuals: Your logo, colour palette, typography, and imagery all contribute to the first impression people have of your business. Are your colours bold and high-energy or soft and calming? Does your typography set the desired tone, what images are you using to represent your business? Are they high quality and relevant?
🌟 Tone of Voice: The way you communicate with your audience - through social media captions, website copy, or customer emails tells people whether you’re formal and professional or relaxed and conversational. It is a choice to give your business its own unique voice or perhaps make it sound just like you.
🌟 Customer Experience: The vibe carries through to how people feel when they interact with your business, whether it’s visiting your website, receiving a product in the post, or popping into your shop (on or offline). Are they coming away with a positive experience? Did they feel looked after, understood and seen/heard?

So Why Does Your Business Vibe Matter?
Creating a clear and consistent vibe isn’t just about looking good; it’s about going deeper and creating a connection. Here’s why it’s so important:
🧡 Attracting Your Ideal Clients
When your brand vibe aligns with the values, tastes, and aspirations of your target audience, you’ll naturally attract the right people. For example, if you’re running a yoga studio that values mindfulness and serenity, a calming and minimalist vibe will resonate with your audience far better than bold, high-energy visuals. People are looking for solutions, so if that first impression/glance at your visuals fits the ideal sense they are searching for then you are guaranteed to hook them in.
🧡 Building Trust and Recognition
Consistency is key when it comes to branding. If your vibe feels scattered or inconsistent, it can confuse potential clients or customers. A strong, cohesive vibe builds trust and helps people remember you. Over time, it’ll become your signature - something people instantly recognise. Likewise, if you put minimal effort into how your online spaces look, function and work together as a whole, you are likely instilling an instant 'bad vibe' and turning customers away.
🧡 Standing Out from the Crowd
The small business world is competitive, and your vibe is one of the best ways to stand out. It’s what makes your business uniquely yours. A carefully curated vibe can set you apart, even in a crowded market. Having a unique vibe doesn't always mean doing something so far out of the box and wildly different from everyone else, it just means allowing your business to be its authentic self.
How to Find Your Business’s Vibe
So, the real reason we are all here - how do you figure out the right vibe for your small business? Start by asking yourself these foundational questions:
👉🏻 Who are my ideal clients? Think about the people you most want to work with or sell to. What kind of vibe would appeal to them? Remember, it is about them not you when it comes to your business brand.
👉🏻 What are my brand values? Your vibe should reflect what your business stands for. Are you all about creativity and fun, or do you emphasise luxury and sophistication? Your values are what's going to create that deeper connection.
👉🏻 What emotions do I want to evoke? Think about how you want people to feel when they interact with your brand. Energised? Comforted? Inspired? This is where colour and type play their winning parts!
👉🏻 What do I want my business to sound like? Think about if you want your business to have your voice or one of its own. Again, consider your audience - are they local or worldwide? What is their age? What is their background?
👉🏻 What makes my business unique? Your vibe should highlight what sets you apart from others in your industry.
Gaining clarity always begins with our business foundations, once you’ve got a clearer idea on these, you can start translating your answers into strategic visuals and messaging - building up that personality-packed brand identity. This might mean experimenting with different colour palettes, fonts, and design elements or refining the way you talk about your business online until it all feels in alignment.
